Entrepreneur's Corner

Think the dotcom bubble burst? Not for Kirill Novitchenko, ’00, and his company ElGraph Design Group, Inc. With clients that range from the United Nations to 1-800-DISC JOCKEY (North America’s largest DJ booking network), ElGraph has created a niche, specializing in designing and developing Web sites that focus on back-end programming and usability.

“Unlike other web development consultants who only had knowledge of basic programming, I had a much deeper understanding of servers, protocols, networks and Internet security,” Novitchenko says. “We learned everything—from how electrons move through transistors to create bits of information to how Web pages are rendered in browsers.”

ElGraph uses new technologies such as AJAX to produce complex systems—database-driven content, product catalogues, e-commerce modules to accept online payments, advanced search engines and integration with back-office or third-party systems—with intuitive user interfaces.

When the UN had an open bid for a fund management Internet system, ElGraph took the opportunity and submitted an impressive sample code, winning the project.

Today, the company has grown to 23 employees, with three based out of the San Francisco office. They also have an office in Russia where most of the development team is located. The company is also planning to open an office in Stockholm, Sweden, within two years, to take advantage of the growing European demand for web development services.

Entrepreneurs Corner by Marnette Federis, ’06 and Neda Oreizy, '08.
