Large or Small, Your Gift Makes a Difference

For alumni and friends of public universities such as UC San Diego, giving provides an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of students, faculty and staff—as well as on the local community and beyond.

Now, more than ever, the world needs the kind of innovation UCSD attracts, cultivates and produces. Pioneering solutions in healthcare, making breakthrough scientific discoveries and cultivating global awareness—UCSD can do it, but we can’t do it alone.

Because UC San Diego only receives a fraction of its total annual budget from state funding—just 12 percent— philanthropic contributions are critical to the University’s continued success. This campus depends on private support so that it can continue to deliver the local impact, national influence and global reach UCSD has achieved as the region’s leading research university.

Your gifts, no matter how large or small, can make the difference in finding a cure for cancer, developing policies to promote global security or recruiting the best and brightest students and faculty.

Consider these gifts:
A gift of any amount: Can be pooled with donations from others to help the University meet its greatest and most urgent needs.

A gift of $100: Purchases a campus library book to help students enhance their knowledge and inspire new ideas to further their academic careers.

A gift of $500: Provides sporting equipment for one of 23 teams whose student-athletes consistently earn national recognition.

A gift of $1,000: Supports a graduate student’s outstanding achievement, whether it is researching a novel therapy for disease or designing a spectacular set for a theater production.

A gift of $50,000 or more: Creates a named scholarship endowment that provides a bright undergraduate student—perhaps the first in his or her family to attend college—with a one-year annual award.

A gift of $500,000 or more: Establishes a permanent endowed faculty chair or endowed graduate fellowship in your name to help the campus attract and retain Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners and innovators of all kinds.
Every single contribution, when pooled with gifts from others, can achieve big results—and begin a lifetime of philanthropy. To learn more about giving to UC San Diego, please visit www.giving.ucsd.edu or call 858-534-1610.
