Claims of Frat Hazing Spark Several Investigations-Jan. 17, 2008 University administrators are initiating an investigation into allegations of fraternity hazing after receiving new evidence this past weekend from an anonymous former Sigma Nu pledge.

Students to Lead Free Speech Revision-Jan. 17, 2008 The committee charged with reviewing the University’s free-speech policy revision decided at its January 10 meeting to scratch the controversial draft policy and await a new student-crafted version.

New Campus Construction Goes Greener-Jan. 22 A team of campus scientists will finish a complete weather monitoring project later this year studying the different microclimates in the hopes of making UCSD more environmentally friendly.

Porter’s Pub Dodges Drastic Changes-March 6 Although a recent shift in Porter’s Pub ownership prompted swirling rumors that the tavern would be converted to a weekend sports bar, these rumors have been quelled by both employees and former manager Robert Porter, ’92, who assure that the pub’s original integrity will remain intact.

RIMAC Annex Center of Funding Debate-March 13 Construction of RIMAC Annex, the University’s new 14,000 sq. ft., $10-million dining and retail facility, is underway this month. The building, funded entirely by student recreational fees, will be situated just north of RIMAC Arena and house a Peet’s Coffee, a cafe, a conference room and a convenience store.
