A Bailout of Our Own

The economic recession didn’t stop UCSD students from pitching in a little extra this year. Facing an A.S. Council budget shortfall, undergraduates approved a $19.82 quarterly activity-fee increase this winter to support campus events and organizations.

The student activity fee now totals $143.46 per year, 27.9 percent of which funds A.S. Programming, and includes the annual Sun God Festival. The Student Promoted Access Center for Educational Services accounts for a further 22.4 percent; student organizations take 18.9 percent; and A.S. Council internal and administrative expenses 8.1 percent. There is also a long list of student programs that benefit from the activity fee.

In supporting the increase, undergrads also agreed to spend $7.02 per year— 4.9 percent of the total fee—on a new Sustainability Resource Center, scheduled to open in Price Center West this summer.
