Clarion Call

It could begin, “once upon a time” or “space, the final frontier,” but whether science fiction or fantasy, the 18 writers who will attend the Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers’ Workshop at UC San Diego will aim to write at least one story a week from June 27 to August 7. As well as writing and critiquing each other’s work the writers, chosen from 165 applicants, will attend intense daily workshops with the celebrated faculty of authors, who include Delia Sherman (The Porcelain Dove), George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones series), Dale Bailey (House of Bones), Samuel R. Delaney (Trouble on Triton), Jeff VanderMeer (City of Saints and Madmen) and Ann VanderMeer (Steampunk).

Established in 1968, Clarion is widely recognized as a premier training ground for aspiring writers of fantasy and science fiction. Hosted by Michigan State University from 1972 to 2006, it is now in its fourth year at UC San Diego. If you wish to support Clarion, Amazon has a fundraising challenge.
