Inventing the Future

As UC San Diego bids adieu to its 50th Anniversary milestone year, the campus looks forward to the next half-century and the world of possibilities ahead. From the University's founders to our current campus community, the desire to explore, create and achieve is a common bond we all share.

As we forge ahead, you may notice a few changes to the University's marketing and branding. UC San Diego and its alumni are focused on enhancing the world around us. "Learn It. Live It." is a new campus theme that highlights UC San Diego's focus on quality of life. As members of the UC San Diego community, everything we learn and do revolves around creating a better life and better world for the generations to come.
We invite you to join us as we venture into the next five decades of innovation and achievement. Don't miss UC San Diego's newest tradition—the annual Founders' Celebration. This year's festivities, November 17-19, will include:

Thursday, November 17
Founders' Symposium—A dynamic evening featuring a lively discussion of life-changing research happening every day at UC San Diego.

Friday, November 18
Founders' Day—An annual celebration commemorating the day the campus was officially founded in 1960.

Saturday, November 19
Founders' Dinner—A festive benefit dinner showcasing UC San Diego talent and honoring the 2011 recipients of the Chancellor's Medal: Richard and Rita Atkinson; the late John Davies and his wife, Ann; Sheldon, Revelle '72, and Susan Engelhorn; Anne Ratner; and L.S. and Aline Skaggs. Proceeds from the event benefit the Invent the Future student support campaign.

As one of UC San Diego's 140,000 alumni, your support and involvement will help UC San Diego shape minds, change lives, launch industries and build the future—one student, one discovery and one achievement at a time.

Recent Gifts

UC San Diego students, staff, friends and family of late UC San Diego student-athlete Léon Roach raised $37,000 and spent nearly 3,000 volunteer hours to install pole vault viewing terraces in remembrance of the fallen Triton. Without the volunteers, the project would have cost upwards of $350,000.

Global finance innovator and UC San Diego alumnus Ken Kroner, Ph.D. '88, and his wife, Jennifer, have donated $1 million to fund the Kroner Family Endowed Fellowship in Social Sciences.

"A World of Possibilities" was the theme of this year's benefit celebration for The Preuss School UCSD—a charter middle and high school for motivated, low-income students recently ranked by Newsweek as the nation's top transformative high school. Record-breaking net proceeds from the event totaled $375,000.
