Sister Act

If you have any stories about your years at UCSD, we would love to hear them.

Left to right: Veronica Fuog, Revelle '10, Gretchen Fuog, Revelle '10, and Sarah Fuog, Warren '12

Editor's Note: These two pictures caught our eye and we had to find out more. Although this is a departure from our traditional "Looking Back", we think you'll discover why this story is so special. And if you have a UC San Diego story, we'd love to hear it. Tell us at alumnieditor@ucsd.edu

When twins Gretchen and Veronica, and younger sister, Sarah, Fuog vacationed in La Jolla in 1992, their parents took them to the Birch Aquarium and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. After a day running around tide pools and gazing at jellyfish, the family took a quick snapshot of the three girls. The family forgot about this photo until years later.

Gretchen and Veronica, the eldest of five in the Fuog family, had planned to go their separate ways after high school to disassociate from their "twin" label. Yet, the sisters fell in love with UC San Diego and entered the University as freshmen, both at Revelle College.

Gretchen, a communications major with a political science minor, joined the Chi Omega sorority and ended up as a member of the board of directors for the Panhellenic Council.

Veronica embellished her economics major with experience as a Revelle orientation leader and as a Warren residential advisor. She joined Gretchen in the Panhellenic society but chose to join Alpha Chi Omega.

The youngest sister, Sarah, joined the Triton family in 2008. A human development major with an art history and psychology minor at Warren College, Sarah joined Chi Omega, Gretchen's sorority, and later became the director of event planning.

Gretchen and Veronica graduated in 2010. Two years later, in June 2012, the sisters gathered at UCSD for Sarah's graduation. Before heading home, they recreated that special snapshot from 20 years earlier—back where it all started, near the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
